Feeling Blessed

The last week and a half has been pretty hot for being so early in season. I can't help but feel blessed over the pool I snagged at the end of the season last year. I paid $9.99 for a pretty big pool with filter think it's 20x30.

Check anywhere and everywhere at the end of the season for pools, pool toys and chemicals. I usually pay 75% OFF every year. There is no way I could afford to just go buy it full price.

I suppose the clothing would have to get thrown into this post too. Since that really is the best way to shop. I try buying all the anticipated sizes of the boys winter needs for the next year at about 75% OFF too. I 3 in 1 winter coats for next winter for I think $15 each.

Not trying to brag but just bring to mind that a little planning can never hurt the budget. Especially in the times we are in now!

Wow

Just when I think I have read it all on being frugal, I came across a forum topic where the mom of 14 fed her family on $500 a month! I didn't have all the time to read the full details but some things that stood out.

1. Not much junk!
2. One meatless supper a week
3. Not much junk! lol

Not sure where you are on your food budget but I know mine HAS to be cut or there will be trouble soon :-) I have had good luck matching coupons against store coupons, Aldi's and stockpiling.

Would love to hear your ideas. But whatever you do...don't give up. All the little savings add up in the end.

Homemade laundry detergent

I keep being reminded how much money is being spent on doing laundry. As if the detergent was pricey enough just throw in the softener and whew!

I have tried a few of these homemade laundry recipes with great success. I have not tried the vinegar yet in the rinse cycle. From what I have read it works really well.

I use Phel's Naptha for the bars and instead of hand grating mine I found an old manual flour grinder that does the trick. It really is an easy process and can save a ton of money. Not to mention, it's probably better on washer and clothing.

Dave Ramsey advocates using a debt snowball to pay off debts. Dave Ramsey Baby Step 1

So, I am going to try to turn a leaf this year and go with Dave's plan. We all know that the future is uncertain for many including my family. I will be posting the steps in Dave Ramsey's plan that really are not hard to understand and make complete sense.

I have a long way to go in my learning and applying!

Step 1 – $1,000 to start an Emergency Fund.

Emergency funds are quite possibly one of the most important things you can do for yourself financially. You never know when you will need quick access to several hundred, or even a couple thousand dollars to deal with a car repair or a quick plane ride to visit family who live far away. An emergency fund will give you the funds to take care of these expenses as they arrive, and help you stay out of debt.

I am finding this first step not only the hardest but key. If you don't have the money set aside for emergencies (which will happen) then it either puts financial strain at an all time high or starts the snowball rolling of more debt.

A New Start

I don't know about you but I love new beginnings. This is going to be just one of those! A little about me...I am a Christian mom of 4, that homeschools and is trying to adjust to a new income after DH got a lay off last year.
There have been many trials for sure. But, we have been blessed by God in so many ways. This new beginning is going to be my attempt to be a wise steward to all that God has given us.
I have done well in the past with living frugally only to fall back into old habits. This year I would love to make it a way of life. I hope you will enjoy the journey with me. As I not only learn to blog but learn to live on the lowest possible dime!
